Long Term Project Completed At Last!
January 11, 2017

Like many people who knit or crochet, I have projects I have been working on over a number of years –  picking them up and putting them down again for a while as other, smaller projects take priority.

This week I completed this rug which I started about five years ago. It is a mixture of eucalyptus coloured wool and novelty yarns. The wool I inherited from my mother’s stash. Most of the rug is knitted with the exception of the three crochet motifs and the border.

‘Hmmm, this is nice and snuggly, Margaret.’

I am planning to give the rug to a family member who lives in a pet free household.

Winter Chill
July 3, 2016

This is what greeted me when a frigid day was followed by an even more frigid night resulting in a heavy frost the next morning. I am accustomed to finding ice on the windscreen of my car, but this was the first time the crystals formed patterns.  It was such a novelty, I took the photographs to record the event.

Down The Calder

Each month, Katie and I travel from Castlemaine down the Calder Highway to Melbourne where I stay for 2 to 3 nights. I visit my father who is 91 years old, other family and friends. Katie gets to hang out with Kliff and Lucy, the canines who reside with my brother, Malcolm and sister, Beverley.

In the collage, I am passing Mt. Macedon with its Memorial Cross and low hanging cloud – quite often mist, fog or rain.

Whilst I am glad to catch up with family and friends, I am also glad when it is time to return home.

When I first moved to Castlemaine, I was told the longer I lived here, the harder it would become to return to Melbourne. The people who said this were right! If I knew nobody in Melbourne, there would be no reason for this monthly trip.

Here are Lucy, the Golden Retriever, and Kliff, the Bull Arab X, sunning themselves.

My niece, Lily, took the photograph.

Collage: These are a Few of My Favourite Things

“When the dog bites,

When the bee stings,

When I’m feeling sad,

I simply remember my favourite things and then I don’t feel so bad.”

As sung by Julie Andrews in ‘Sound of Music’

I made this collage about some of my favourite things about my home:

The strips of toilet paper wrapper – my house is light and bright, full of colour and texture,

The red tea bag wrappers – the pleasure of drinking good quality green tea. I’ve run out. I need to get some more.

The art work made by my nieces – their greeting cards give me a lot of pleasure. Gemma wrote 61 all over the turtle’s shell to mark my 61st birthday.

The pieces of knitting – knitting is calming. Balls of yarn settle on various surfaces in the living area. Most days I am extracting yarn from Katie’s mouth. Katie loves anything soft and chewy. She prefers my yarn to her yarn which lives in her own special yarn bag.

The keys – keys to my heart, keys to happiness, the keys I can never find when I need them.

The beads – the joy of my own creations which adorn my home.

Katie who just wants to have fun.

Arlo, The Magnificent, who doesn’t have much time for Katie.

Belle, The Huntress, who is sitting on the kitchen bench which is forbidden. That reflective collar isn’t there for decoration. Belle is Katie’s favourite playmate.

Gazing At The Moon

Gazing at the moon,

Singing to the stars,

We stare into the night,

Small specks on the face of this earth.DSCN2689

Collage: Dancing in the Rainbow
September 14, 2013

Dancing in the rainbow

Our bodies smile with joy

Our hearts sing their delight

Blissfully, we are united in the dance.

Dancing in the Rainbow is one of the Qi Gong exercises we do in the final 15 minutes of the Tai Chi for Arthritis class I attend. It is one of my favourite exercises.

In this picture which combines collage and drawing, I have depicted my old friend and companion, Spotty, who died on the 24th of July.

Perhaps one day, we will be united in the dance once more.

A new canine companion has entered my life and so, I commence my journey with Katie.

I have included this card, which was given to me by a friend on my 60th birthday, as it has a rainbow and I laughed when I read it.

Coming Home
June 10, 2013

DSCN2396

It was settlement day,

The keys were newly in my hands,

I entered the empty house stripped of its finery  by the previous owners and opened the rear glass door,

The buddleias in the garden were aflutter with butterflies,

Delicate perfume flowed into the living room

Followed by a butterfly

Welcoming me home.

I began moving into this house in Castlemaine on the 5th of April.  Living in Castlemaine has felt like a home coming.

My pets, Spotty, the dog and  the two cats, Arlo and Belle, have adapted readily to their new surroundings.
