Pastel drawing: The light in the darkness
December 20, 2012

Another drawing from my archives.

I made this drawing as part of a professional development workshop two or three years ago.

The drawing seems particularly relevant in my current situation as I seek to focus on the light when I have been beset by the thorns and monsters of my own self doubt, anxiety and fears in recent months.

This week, hope has been restored as help from an unexpected quarter has been offered.

Pastel Drawing: “I want to go home”, 11th December 2012
December 13, 2012

DSCN2322Today, I want to go home.

Translation: I want to return to the safe and familiar –

Familiar routines, familiar landmarks, familiar faces.

Now that the sale of my home in Ferntree Gully is finalised, I need to get serious about finding my new home.

I am daunted by this prospect yet I yearn for a place to call my own again.

Today, my heart is torn –

Torn between the promise of new growth and fears that it could all go horribly wrong.

I envy those who are confident and assured of their capacity to bring their plans to fruition.

Who regard buying a new home as the ultimate in shopping experiences.

The distinctive silhouette soared overhead on upswept wings

Fingered wingtips, wedge shaped tail,

I could feel my body responding with excitement – heart and breath quickening,

My spirit leapt from my body and flew to join the circling bird high against the sky

Free, untamed

Sky Spirit.

I bathed in the warmth of the sun streaming through the car windows

Protected from the chill of the buffeting wind,

My ears filled with the sounds of the wind moving through the trees and across the tossing bracken,

The shadows of the clouds crossing the paddocks.

Bellbrae  – where eagles and yellow tailed black cockatoos fly.

Bellbrae is a rural area between Torquay and Anglesea on the Victorian coast.

The eagle is the Wedge-tailed Eagle, Australia’s largest bird of prey.
